Indonesia possibly has the highest prevalence of childhood epilepsy in Southeast Asia, but there are still an abundance of negative and inaccurate perceptions toward epilepsy in Indonesia, even for the patient’s families. Negative and inaccurate perceptions on epilepsy could affect caregiver’s (e.g., mother) adaptation process, management of epilepsy, and emotional condition. Maladaptive management on epilepsy could impinge on children’s development and autonomy. Mothers tend to show maladaptive responses toward epilepsy as a result of negative Illness Perceptions. This study aims to construct a Cognitive Behavioral group counseling module for mothers of children with epilepsy, and to examine whether the aforementioned intervention could change the mothers’ Illness Perceptions. The module was designed using Intervention Mapping approach and was tested on three participants (N=3) who passed the inclusion criteria. All three participants went through a pretest session, six group counseling sessions, and a posttest session. The trials demonstrated that the Cognitive Behavioral group counseling module was suitable to be applied on mothers of children with epilepsy, and pretest-posttest measurement indicated that Cognitive Behavioral group counseling was able to change participants’ illness perceptions toward a more positive one.
