This research titled The Word ‘Over’ as Preposition and Adverb Particle in English: Syntax and Semantic Analysis. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe the syntactic and semantic categories on the word ‘over’, types of verbs that are attached to the word `over’, and the meaning described by the syntactic behavior of the word ‘over’. The method used in this research is descriptive and comparative. The data used were taken from the Corpus of Contemporary American (Coca). Theories used in thi s are research theories Quirk (1985), Swan ((1995), Richard (1985), and Wishon (1980). The results showed that the word ‘over’ has some syntactic behavior: first, stem word (headword) in the prepositional phrase, and lastly as an adverb. The meaning of the word `over’ is influenced by the behavior of syntax. —’over’ as a preposition in every part of a place, above (in static position), above (involves motion), moving from an upright position to a nonupright position, going up higher than an obstacle, on, more than, during, by using, the particle adverb mean aspectual or semi idiomatic and idiomatic meaning.
