ECONOMIC GROWTH AND WOMEN IN LABOR FORCE : ASEAN PERSPECTIVE

This study aims to analyze the effect of economic growth on the female labor force in Southeast Asia. This study used panel data for 26 years from 1990 to 2016 of 8 countries in Southeast Asia with a Generalized Least Square (GLS) model. The control variables used in this study are gross domestic product (GDP) of each country and the form of quadratic GDP, education level, total fertility rate, agricultural share of total GDP, and service sector share.
The results of this study indicate that economic growth and women participation in labor force have U-shaped relationships. Education level & agricultural share of GDP have a positive and significant influence on the female participation in labor force, the total fertility rate and the service sector share of GDP have a negative and significant effect on the women labor force participation.
