With a unique work environment and the occupation being viewed by Indonesians as the ideal occupation, this paper aims to determine what factors affect the job satisfaction levels of Indonesian civil servants. This paper also aims to determine whether or not demographic and job characteristics have a distinct effect on civil servants in comparison to other wage workers. Using the ordered probit regression method and data taken from the Indonesian Family Life Survey Wave 5, results show that an individual who works as a civil servant are indeed more likely to be very satisfied with their jobs. However, only few dependent variables are found to be statistically significant in determining the job satisfaction of civil servants. Results from this research can be utilized by government administrators to boost the well-being of their workers. For further research, subjective measures of job characteristics are necessary to better explain job satisfaction levels.
