it is widely accepted that farmers’ performance is affected by human capital1, encompassing both innate and learned skills, including the ability to process information (Jamison and Lau 1982, cited in Anderson & Feder 2003, p. 1). It is also generally understood that extension is an effort to develop human capital through non-formal education activities (Qamar 2005, p. 7) and communication processes (Leeuwis 2004). Hence, extension, in particular agricultural extension, is a potential process to increase farmers’ performance in order to achieve a “better farming, better business, better living, and better community” of farmers (Van den Ban 1999, p. 147).
