This study was aimed at determining the affect of different kind of growth regulators on growth and regeneration of ginger somatic embryogenesis. In vitro shoots were produced from rhizome-derived unopened bud. Longitudinal slice of shoots containing meristems were used as inoculum for callus induction in MS-based media supplemented with different concentration of Picloram, 2,4-D and NAA. NAA failed to induced callus formation but resulted in proliferation of shoots. 2,4-D and Picloram induced the formation of callus with different morphologies, but granular and friable callus was induced on medium supplemented with 10-20 mg/l picloram. That callus failed to regenerate into plant upon transfer to medium without plant growth regulator or medium supplemented with BA and thidiazuron, instead that individual granular callus produced individual roots indicating the unity of the granular callus. Histological observations provide further evidence that the callus was embryogenic.
