Organisasi sosial seringkali menghadapi persoalan yang berat berkaitan dengan para relawannya dalam mencapai tujuan dan sasaran yang telah ditetapkan oleh organisasinya. Dengan demikian suatu rancangan pelatihan dan pengembangan relawan organisasi sosial perlu diterapkan pada setiap tahap proses perencanaan keorganisasian. Pelatihan relawan akan menjembatani perbedaan-perbedaan antara apa yang relawan pahami mengenai suatu tugas, harapannya sendiri terhadap bagaimana mereka melakukan tugas tersebut, dan level kinerjanya. Program pelatihan yang efektif bagi relawan dikembangkan ketika kebutuhan akan tugas dan pekerjaan, kebutuhan organisasi dan relawan telah diketahui dengan jelas, kemudian dibawa ke dalam pengembangan program pelatihan.

A non profit organization relies heavily on its volunteer to implement a goals and objectives. Therefore, plans for the training and development of the organization’s volunteers must be included at every stage of the organizational planning process. Volunteer training program bridges the differences between what a volunteer understand and assigment to be, their own expectations on how well they can perform that assignment, and what their performance level actually is when given the opportunity to perform. Effective training program for volunteers are development when job and task requirements, organizational and volunteer needs are are clearly identified, and then brought into the development of the training program.
