Latar Belakang: Remaja merupakan masa transisi dari anak-anak menjadi dewasa,diawali dengan pubertas yaitu terjadinya perubahan fisik seperti bentuk tubuh, proporsi tubuh, fungsi fisiologis, dan pematangan organ seksual. Masalah pada remaja bersumber pada perubahan organo-biologic akibat pematangan organ reproduksi saat pubertas yang sering tidak disadari. Remaja berisiko tinggi terhadap penyakit menular seksual antara lain akibat kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai pubertas. Sampai saat ini penelitian pada remaja putra di Indonesia mengenai masalah pubertas belum banyak dilakukan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran pengetahuan dan perilaku siswa SMP di Kecamatan Jatinangor terhadap perubahan fisik saat pubertas. Metode: Penelitian dilakukan secara deskriptif cross-sectional pada bulan September hingga Oktober 2016. Subjek penelitian diambil menggunakan metode multistage random sampling dengan kriteria inklusi siswa yang bersekolah di tiga SMP di Kecamatan Jatinangor yang terpilih, kelas 8, berusia 12-15 tahun. Subjek dieksklusi bila tidak bersedia ikut serta dalam penelitian ini. Kuesioner berisi 28 pertanyaan yang telah melalui uji validitas dan reabilitas dengan nilai Cronbach’s alpha 0.479. Variabel penelitian adalah pengetahuan dan perilaku siswa SMP terhadap perubahan fisik saat pubertas. Hasil: Sebagian besar siswa SMP di Kecamatan Jatinangor berpengetahuan cukup (76%) dan berperilaku baik (70,2%) terhadap perubahan fisik saat pubertas. Simpulan: Siswa SMP di Kecamatan Jatinangor berpengetahuan cukup dan berperilaku baik dalam menghadapi perubahan fisiknya saat pubertas.
Background: Adolescence is a transition phase from childhood to adulthood, which is initiated by puberty, marked by physical changes including body shape, body proportion, physiologic functions and sexual organs maturity. Problems in adolescents occur due to this organo-biologic changes during puberty, and this was seldom taken into notice. Adolescents are at high risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections because of lack of knowledge regarding puberty. In the meantime, there has not been many studies about puberty in male adolescents in Indonesia. This study aims to observe the level of knowledge and behavior of junior high school male students towards physical changes during puberty in Jatinangor, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on September-October 2016. Subjects were selected by multistage random sampling method, with inclusion criteria being grade 8 male students from 3 junior high schools in Jatinangor, aged 12-15 years old. Subjects were excluded if they were not willing to participate in the study. The questionnaire included 28 pre-validated questions. The instrument was considered reliable with Cronbach’s alpha score of 0.479. The study variables include knowledge and behavior of male junior high school students towards physical changes during puberty. Results: Most junior high school students in Jatinangor had enough knowledge (76%) and are well behaved (70,2%) towards physical changes during puberty. Conclusion: Male students in junior high school in Jatinangor were well-informed and well-behaved towards physical changes in puberty.
