Gambaran Oral Habit Pada Anak Usia 6-12 Tahun

Oral habit are habit repeatedly around the oral cavity, like finger sucking, mouth breathing, lip sucking and biting, jaw protruding, tongue thrusting, and finger nail biting. The purpose of this research was to find the condition of oral habits in 6 – 12 – year old children of the Model Laboratory Elementary School, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Cibiru, Bandung.

This study was a descriptive research using the survey technique. The sample collecting used was purposive sampling, and a number of 223 samples were collected, consisting of 94 male students and 129 female students.

The result indicated the following oral habit: finger nail biting 30.04%, lip sucking and lip biting 27.35%, mouth breathing 16.14%, finger sucking 14.25%, tongue thrusting 7.62%, and jaw protruding 4.48%. Oral habit were found to be 22.87% in 8-year-old children, 18.83% in 9-year-old children, 17.49% in 10-year-old children, 15.25% in 7-year-old children, 14.8% in 6-year-old children, 8.97% in 11-year-old children, and 1.79% in 12-year-old children.

The conclusion of this was that oral habit were most frequently encountered in 8-year-old girls with finger nail biting habit.
