The prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents has been increasing year by year in the world, in Asia and in Indonesia. The prevalence of obesity in Indonesia, according to data from Health Research Association in 2007, the population aged 15 years or older was 10.3%, while the West Java overweight prevalence among children aged 6-14 years and men 7.4%, women 4.6%. The high rates of obesity in adolescence increases the risk of degenerative diseases in adulthood. The causes of obesity in teenagers is largely due to the wrong eating behavior (high-energy, high-fat, low-fiber diet) and life behavior (low physical activity). Nutritional counseling is an effort to intervene in overweight and obese patients. Nutrition counseling services are conducted in a hospital or other health care sites have not shown readiness clients in receiving the information to change old behaviors to new behaviors. Transtheoritical Model (TTM) is one of the theories that are often used in interventions to change behavior in health and diet. Nutritional counseling approach with transtheoritical model (TTM) consists of 6 stages (precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, relapse), is expected to be more effective in intervene overweight and obese patients. This article aims to determine the effect of nutritional counseling with a transtheoritical model approach to eating behavior and physical activity in overweight and obese adolescents. This article is a review of the literature. The results of this study showed that intensive nutritional counseling effect on eating behavior and physical activity in overweight and obese adolescents. This study also demonstrated effectiveness of transtheoritical model in changing eating/diet behavior and physical activity on obesity. Based on the study is expected to provide nutritional counselors should keep in readiness counseling clients in eating behavior and behavioral change his life (physical activity), it has been doing according to the stages in the transtheoritical model.
