Di bagian rawat inap rumah sakit, perawat dituntut untuk dapat melakukan asuhan keperawatan kepada pasien secara intensif dalam jangka waktu lebih panjang dibandingkan dengan unit kerja lain. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti peran occupational commitment dalam mengantarai pengaruh service climate terhadap caring behavior perawat. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 91 perawat yang bertugas di IRNA Bedah RSUD Dr. Soetomo. Data diolah menggunakan analisis jalur (path analysis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa service climate berpengaruh signifikan terhadap caring behavior apabila diantarai oleh affective occupational commitment serta normative occupational commitment perawat terhadap profesi atau bidang kerja keperawatan. Kondisi service climate RSUD Dr. Soetomo yang dipersepsikan telah cukup menyenangkan memiliki pengaruh signfikan terhadap tingginya frekuensi caring behavior perawat dalam melayani pasien, jika perawat memiliki komitmen afektif dan normatif yang mendasari keterikatannya terhadap profesinya sebagai perawat.

In hospital’s inpatient care unit, nurses are required to interact intensively with patients and also perform nursing care on longer duration than other units. To achieve service excellence in quality, nurses have to be able to consider patients’ condition and showing care to them to recover more quickly. This research was designed to study the role of occupational commitment in mediating effect of service climate toward caring behavior. Research subjects are 91 nurses working in IRNA Bedah RSUD Dr. Soetomo. Data was analyzed using path analysis. The final result show that service climate has significant effect toward caring behavior if mediated by affective occupational commitment and normative occupational commitment. The more service climate perceived as favorable by nurse, the higher frequency of nurse would always show caring behavior toward patients, if nurse show affective occupational commitment and normative occupational commitment to their occupation in nursing profession.
