A Comparison of multiple boost configurations for small renewable energy battery storage systems

This paper compares performance in terms of efficiency,line regulation, load regulation, and output voltage ripple for three different boost configurations used in energy battery storage systems. More specifically, l-Phase Boost,2-Phase Boost, and 2-Parallel Boost are being studied through computer simulation using LTSpice. LTC3862 multiphase current mode step-up controller will be employed in the study. Results demonstrate that 2-Phase Boost converter generally outperforms the l-Phase and 2-Parallel with respect to overall system efficiency, line regulation, and output voltage ripple. Detail performance of each configuration will be explained. Issues and challenges associated with each configuration will also be presented.
