This research is based on the number of complaints in the world of journalism to the Board of the press as well as the Broadcasting Commission of Indonesia. The on line mass media are the most reported in the Press Council. Most complaints are the media that do not verify the information they received, defamation, and breach of ethics. Why journalists do that breach? How the media recruiting his journalist. In line with that problem, this research was conducted to obtain information as to what qualifications a journalist is needed both in the mainstream media of large capitalization in Jakarta, to the local mass media such as the Berau. The area became part of the research is 27 mass media in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Banda Aceh, and Berau. The research method is done using a case study of plural with the collection of data in the form of observation, in-depth interviews, and the study of literature. There is a difference in recruitment of journalists who are very significant in some areas. Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya, have no problem in finding a good journalist because of the large number of applicants, but to Denpasar, Yogyakarta, looking for a journalist that comply with the standard and their expectations is quite difficult especially in the electronic mass media. Having trouble finding the journalist was also influential on the quality of news that is presented. Based on the results of the study, it was found that studies journalism in general does not become a major priority in recruitment of journalists in the media who became the object of research this time. This is due to the mass media do not feel that it can guarantee the quality of journalism. Almost all mass media felt that journalistic skills that fit the character of the respective media can be trained internally. The most important qualification is the passion, loyalty, and determination of the candidate to be a journalist. And it can be obtained from any educational background. However, all media agreed that journalistic studies should be standard for the competence of journalists. Then based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the journalistic education curriculum developed mainly in the field of ethics and converging media development so as to be able to meet the needs of mass media quality journalist, especially in terms of practical not only in conventional mass media but also the mass media in the network.
