1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydropyridin-3-yl-octanoate, antifertility, carica papaya, Rattus norvegicus
Seeds of Carica papaya are reported to possess an antifertility effect but no information concerning the chemical structure of the active compound. The aim of this research is to obtain the chemical structure of compound from the seeds of C. papaya possessing an antifertility effect againts spermatozoa of the white rat (Rattus novergicus). Isolation of the compound was carried out by extraction and chromatographic techniques. Elucidation of chemical structure was carried out on the basis of spectroscopic evidences including IR, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. The antifertility of this compound was evaluated against spermatozoa of Rattus novergicus in vitro at a concentration of 12.5 ng/ L. From 7 g of the extract of ethyl acetate was obtained 26.1 mg of colorless solid and based on characterize method, the isolate was identified as an alkaloid with IUPAC name 1,2,3,4tetrahydropyridin-3-yl octanoate with molecular formula C13H23NO2 The result of antifertility testing showed the significant difference of activity of compound compared with the control. The compound can decreased motility and viability, and increased abnormality of the spermatozoa, 32%, 18%, and 294% respectively.
