Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh campuran tanah lapisan bawah (subsoil) dan kompos (kompos tandan kosong sawit dan kompos UNPAD) sebagai media tanam yang pengaruhnya paling baik terhadap pertumbuhan bibit kelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) kultivar Sungai Pancur 2 (SP 2) di pembibitan awal.

Percobaan dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Padjadjaran, ketinggian tempat 753 m di atas permukaan laut, jenis tanah Inceptisol dan pH 5,6. Tipe curah hujan menurut klasifikasi Schmidt & Ferguson (1951) adalah tipe C. Percobaan dimulai dari bulan Februari sampai Juni 2006.

Rancangan percobaan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) yang terdiri dari sepuluh perlakuan dengan tiga ulangan. Perlakuannya adalah sebagai berikut : 100 % topsoil, topsoil + kompos tandan kosong sawit (2:1), topsoil + kompos UNPAD, subsoil + kompos tandan kosong sawit (1:1), subsoil + kompos tandan kosong sawit (2:1), subsoil + kompos tandan kosong sawit (3:1), subsoil + kompos UNPAD (1:1), subsoil + kompos UNPAD (2:1), subsoil + kompos UNPAD (3:1), 100% subsoil.

Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi campuran subsoil dan kompos UNPAD (1:1) memberikan pengaruh baik terhadap tinggi bibit 10, 12, 14, dan 16 MST; luas daun 8 dan 16 MST; bobot basah dan bobot kering bibit 16 MST.

The Objective of the experiment is to know the best mixture of sub-soil and compost (empty fruit bunch compost and compost of UNPAD) as plant medium on growth oil palm seedling (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) cultivar Sungai Pancur 2 (SP 2) in the pre-nursery.

The experiment was conducted at The Agriculture Experiment Station University of Padjadjaran, Jatinangor. Altitude 753 m above sea level, the soil type is Inceptisol and pH 5,6. The type of rainfall according to Schmidt and Fergusson (1951) is C. The experiment was began from February until June 2006.

Randomized Block Design (RDB) was used in this experiment, consisted of ten treatments and replicated three times. The treatments as follow: 100 % topsoil, topsoil + empty fruit bunch compost (2:1), topsoil + compost of UNPAD (2:1), subsoil + empty fruit bunch compost (1:1), subsoil + empty fruit bunch compost (2:1), subsoil + empty fruit bunch compost (3:1), subsoil + compost of UNPAD (1:1), subsoil + compost of UNPAD (2:1), subsoil + compost of UNPAD (3:1), 100 % subsoil.

The result of the experiment show that combination of subsoil and compost of UNPAD (1:1) mixture gave the good effect on seedling height 10, 12, 14 and 16 weeks after planted (WAP); leaves area 8 and 16 WAP; the wet weight and dry weight of seedling 16 WAP.
