Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai patogenisitas dari Helicoverpa armigera Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus wild type asal Indonesia yang diisolasi dari larva Helicoverpa armigera yang mati terinfeksi. Percobaan ini diujikan terhadap larva H. armigera untuk mengetahui pengaruh dosis tersebut terhadap konsumsi makan, berat badan dan berat pupa. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa larva yang tidak diinfeksi akan tumbuh normal pada semua instar. Rentang dosis 6 X 101- 6 X 105 PIB/larva menyebabkan penurunan konsumsi makan antara 25-50% dari berat kering pakan normal, penurunan berat badan 30 – 70% dari berat badan larva normal dan penurunan rata-rata berat pupa (antara 0.240 – 0.290 g). Hasil penelitian awal ini memperlihatkan indikasi bahwa HaNPV wild type asal Indonesia berpotensi sebagai agensia virus untuk mengendalikan populasi larva H. armigera.

A Pathogenity study of an Indonesian wild type Helicoverpa armigera Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (HaNPV) isolated from diseased cadaver Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) larvae has been conducted. This study examine effects of HaNPV dosages of infections and instars of the infected H. armigera larvae on the food consumption, body weight, and weight of pupae. This study shows that infection dosages of 0 PIB/larvae caused normal larvae growth of larvae on all instars. Infection dosages range of 6 X 101 – 6 X 105 PIB/larvae, caused the food consumption drops 25-50% of the dry weight of normal food. The body weight rate drops 30-70% of normal weight and the lower averages of pupae weight (in ranges of 0.240 – 0.290g). These preliminary result indicates that HaNPV Indonesian wild type isolate exhibit a prospecting potency to be used as an insecticides to control the population of H. armigera larvae.
