Penggerek umbi kentang (Potato Tuber Moth = PTM), Phthorimaea operculella Zell. (Lepidoptera : Gelechiidae) merupakan salah satu hama penting pada tanaman kentang. Hasil berbagai penelitian pada serangga P. operculella menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan komposisi feromon seks ngengat betina dari berbagai daerah geografik yang berbeda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aspek biologis P. operculella Zell. Strain Indonesia dan mengidentifikasi feromon seks ngengat betina P. operculella Zell. serta pengujiannya di laboratorium dan lapangan. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Entomologi dan Ruang Analisis, Jurusan Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan dan Laboratorium Entomologi dan Ruang Analisis FMIPA ITB dari bulan Juni 2003 sampai Nopember 2004. Serangga uji yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dikoleksi dari pertanaman kentang milik petani di daerah Pangalengan, Kabupaten Bandung. Perbanyakan serangga dilakukan di Lab. Entomologi pada kondisi temperatur 26 ± 2oC dan kelembaban relatif 70-80% serta periode gelap-terang 12 : 12. Siklus hidup diamati pada kondisi laboratorium, Identifikasi ekstrak ujung abdomen dilaksanakan di Ruang Analisis, Jurusan Biologi FMIPA ITB dengan Gas Chromatography (GC : Shimadzu 17A) yang dilengkapi dengan Detektor Ionisasi Nyala (FID). Uji laboratorium feromon seks P. operculella dilakukan dengan menggunakan Tabung Olfaktometer.

Phthorimaea operculella is the most important pest an essential pest of potato. Researchs have demonstrated that different composition of sex pheromone produced by female from different region of origin. The research was carried out to determinate the life cycle of PTM Indonesian strain and to identify PTM female adult sex pheromone in the laboratory and field trial, the experiment was conducted in entomology laboratorium of plant pest a disease science and FMIPA ITB science June 2003 to November 2004. The experimental insects used were collected from Pangalengan, Kab. Bandung. Insect rearing was conducted in lab of entomology at 26 oC 2 oC, relative humidity 70% – 80 % and 12 : 12 photoperiod. The life cycle was absorbed at laboratorium condition while identification extract of abdomen was carried out in analytical room of Department of Biology FMIPA ITB using Gas Chromatography accompanied with Flame Ionization Detector, the laboratory test of sex pheromone of PTM conducted using Oflactometer.
