C-reactive protein levels increases on inflammation state, including chronic periodontitis patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of non surgery periodontal treatments on C-reactive protein levels in chronic periodontitis patients. Method : sixteen patients with chronic periodontitis consisted of 9 males and 7 females, aged of 30 -67 years old participated in this study. Periodontal probing depths and C-reactive protein levels were assessed before and 4 weeks after non surgery periodontal treatments. C-reactive protein levels were measured using immunoturbidimetric method. Data were analized statistically using Wilcoxon test and paired t test. Result :The mean of C-reactive protein levels before non surgery periodontal treatments (Mean = 3.36 mg/L) and after non surgery periodontal treatments (Mean = 2.0 mg/L), there was a statistically significant decrease of C-reactive protein levels after treatments (p = 0,009). The decrease in C-reactive protein levels was 40,5%. Conclusions :Non surgery periodontal treatments (scaling ang root planing) decreases C-reactive protein levels in chronic periodontitis patients.
