Beluntas (Pluchea indica Less.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang sering digunakan sebagai obat tradisional. Daun beluntas memiliki aktivitas antimikroba terhadap berbagai macam bakteri. Namun, belum pernah diteliti mengenai aktivitas antimikroba daun beluntas terhadap bakteri-bakteri penyebab infeksi nosokomial. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri, menentukan konsentrasi hambat minimum (KHM) ekstrak daun beluntas terhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa Multi Resistant dan Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus yang merupakan bakteri penyebab infeksi nosokomial dan nilai banding aktivitas antibakterinya dengan siprofloksasin. Hasil pengujian aktivitas antibakteri daun beluntas (Pluchea indica Less.) menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun beluntas (Pluchea indica Less.) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terbesar terhadap Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus. Konsentrasi hambat minimum ekstrak daun beluntas (Pluchea indica Less.) terhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa Multi Resistant terletak pada konsentrasi 52% sedangkan pada bakteri Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus terletak pada konsentrasi 20%. Hasil uji banding 1 bagian ekstrak daun beluntas (Pluchea indica Less.) dengan siprofloksasin terhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa Multi Resistant dan Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus berturut-turut sebesar 1 : 1,77 x 10 -5 dan 1 : 5,49 x 10-5. Skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun beluntas (Pluchea indica Less.) mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, polifenol, tanin, monoterpen atau sesquiterpen, dan kuinon.
Beluntas(Pluchea indica Less) is one of plant applied as traditional drugs. Beluntas leaves have good antimicrobial activity to many bacteria. However, the examination of activity antimicrobial activity, from extract of beluntas leaves to bacteria cause of nosocomial infectio, has never been reported.. These reserch was done to know antimicrobial activity, to determines Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of extract of beluntas leaves againts Pseudomonas aeruginosa Multi Resistant and Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus which cause of nosokomial infection and comparetive value of antimicrobial activity with ciprofloxacin. The result of the experiment revealed that the biggest antimicrobial activity of extract of beluntas leaves was against Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of extract of beluntas leaves to Pseudomonas aeruginosa Multi Resistant was 52% of concentration, where as to Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus was 20% of concentration. Comparative value of antimicrobial activity of ciprofloxacin with extract of beluntas leaves against Pseudomonas aeruginosa Multi Resistant and Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus were respective is 1 : 1,77 x 10 -5 and 1 : 5,49 x 10-5. Phytochemical screening showed that extract of beluntas leaves contains alkaloid, flavonoid, polifenol, tannin, monoterpene or sesquiterpene, and kuinon.
