This paper entitled “The Representation of America-Islam Relation: Textual Analysis of President Barrack Obama’s Speech in Cairo”. In his speech, President Barrack Hussein Obama asked the Middle Eastern countries and the Muslim World to begin a new relation. The relation between The United Stated and the Gulf countries deteriorated after the 9/11 incident. Obama aims to clear up all barriers in the relation that is filled with enmity and distrust.

In the speech, Obama presented seven issues to confront collectively with the Muslim World, they are: terrorism, Israel-Palestine conflict, nuclear weapons, democracy, freedom of religions, women rights, and economic development.

This speech is analyzed by using content analysis. The content analysis textually covers lexical analysis that consists of the choice and meaning of words, the construction of a sentence such as syntaxes, transitivity ,background, level of specificity and degree of completeness, and so forth. By using content analysis, we are able to understand not only the content of the text, but also how the message that is delivered. Content analysis reveals the hidden meaning behind a text through the choice of words, phrases, and structures of the sentences.

Textual analysis on this speech provides a comprehensive understanding of the representation of America-Islam relation, and also it reflects a friendly politics offered by Obama to a new US-Islam relation.
