Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Kantor Dinas Pendapatan Daerah Kabupaten Lampung Selatan mulai Nopember sampai Desember 2002 dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui korelasi kanonik antara : (1) Penerapan human relations terhadap semangat kerja dan kinerja pegawai dan (2) lebih lanjut untuk mengetahui korelasi antara 3 sub variabel dari human relations: (a) komunikasi secara terbuka, (b) penghargaan pimpinan dan (c) partisipasi pegawai dalam kegiatan terhadap 3 subvariabel kinerja pegawai yaitu: (i) disiplin kerja, (ii) sikap kerja sama dan (iii) produktivitas dari pegawai. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuisener kepada 43 staf kantor dinas ini. Setiap sub variabel dituangkan kedalam 3 pertanyaan dengan 3 pilihan jawaban yang berskala ordinal. Skoring data dilakukan dengan cara: jawaban yang sangat sesuai dengan harapan diberi skor 3, sesuai dengan harapan 2, dan tidak sesuai dengan harapan diberi skor 1. Analisis korelasi yang digunakan adalah analisis korelasi kanonik (canonical correlation analysis) dengan menggunakan piranti lunak SAS (Statistical Analysis System) Program Version 6.12 dengan menggunakan uji likelihood ratio pada taraf nyata = 0,05 dan 0,10. Kesimpulan yang dapat dibuat dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) ada hubungan nyata antara human relations dengan kinerja pegawai dan lebih lanjut (2) ada hubungan nyata antara sub variabel dari human relations yaitu komunikasi secara terbuka, penghargaan pimpinan dan partisipasi pegawai dalam kegiatan lembaga terhadap disiplin kerja, tetapi tidak nyata terhdap sikap kerjasama pegawai, dan hanya pehgargaan pimpinan yang mempunyai korelasi nyata terhadap produktivitas pegawai.

The research was conducted at The Service Office of District Income Affairs, The Regency of South Lampung, Lampung Province-Indonesia, began in November and finished in December 2002. The objectives this research were to reveal the canonical correlation between: (1) human relations application to the work performance of the staffs, and (2) to reveal further the correlation between sub variable of (a) open communication and sub variable of: (i) the work discipline of staffs ; (ii) the cooperative attitude and (iii) staffs productivity; (b) sub variable of chairman appreciation and sub variable of: (i) the spirit of work; (ii) the cooperative attitude and (iii) staffs productivity and (c) sub variable of staff participation in institution activities and sub variable of: (i) the spirit of work; (ii) the cooperative attitude; and (iii) the staffs productivity. Data acquisitions were conducted by employing the quizenary from the 43 staffs of the service offices. Each sub variable was probed by employing 3 items of questions with 3 options of responses. Data were scored by classifying in 3 categorical data: (a) a response that the utmost matches with the expectation was scored 3, (b) a response rather match with the expectation was scored 2, and (c) a response that lowest match with expectation was scored 1. Data were analyzed with canonical correlation by employing likelihood ratio (p-value of 0.01 and 0.05) by using SAS (Statistical Analysis System) Program Version 6.12. The results showed that : (1) there was a significant correlation between the application of human relations with the performance of institution capacity, and further (2) that the subvariabels of (a) the open communication was only significantly correlated to the staffs discipline but not for both cooperative attitude of the staffs and for their productivity; (b) chairman appreciation was signifinifanctly correlated with sub variable of staffs disciplines and so did their productivity but not for staff cooperative attitude sub variable, and (c) staffs participation was only significantly correlated to the staffs discipline but not for both staffs cooperative attitude and their productivity sub variables.
