Abstrak

Sociology, Anthropology, and Modernity

This paper discusses concepts and theories in Sociology and Anthropology to analyze the
modernity within culture and society. Pertiera’s idea on theory and concept of social and culture
which has been wrapped out in the Sociology and Anthropology becomes the departure of the
analysis. Sociology and Anthropology provide understanding over complexity of changes in the
human society. Sociology provide fuller context of sociality and locate the perspective on
broader context. While Anthropology provided the notion of culture to understand the meaning
and values, the notion of difference and the view of mutually constituted between self, and other.
In relation to the issue of modernity, this paper attempts to discuss the major factors requiring a
sociological and anthropological consciousness for modernity. It will also include the discussion
about the major use of the concept of society and culture to illustrate its significance for
modernity
