Abstrak

Representasi Globalisasi Dalam Novel Shanghai Baobei Karya Wei Hui (Representation Of Globalization In Wei Hui’S Novel Entitled Shanghai Baobei)

Tulisan ini mengkaji representasi globalisasi yang terdapat pada novel Shanghai Baobei karya Wei Hui. Kajian ini dilandasi dengan menggunakan teori Appadurai yang membahas proses kerja dari globalisasi dalam suatu lokalitas. Hasil analisis ini menunjukkan bahwa di dalam novel tersebut terdapat gambaran representasi globalisasi melalui kehadiran perusahaan asing transnasional, gaya hidup, gagasan, ideologi dan budaya global berdasarkan penggambaran latar dan tokoh. Selain itu, hasil analisis ini juga menunjukkan bahwa sikap, cara pandang, dan karakter tokoh utama bernama Coco mengindikasikan ciri-ciri sebagai individu global.

This paper is determining the representation of globalization contained in Wei Hui’s Shanghai Baobei novel. The study conducted based on the Appadurai theory which discusses the workaround of globalization in a locality. The result of the analysis shows that there are some representation which concept globalization in the novel proven by the existence of transnational foreign company, lifestyle, thought, ideology and global culture described by the backgrounds and characters. Other than that, the analysis result also shows that behaviors, perspectives and the personality of the main character named Coco indicate the characteristic features of global individual.
